The Privileged Life: Sunshine!
“The Lord bless you and keep you;the Lord make His face shine upon you,and be gracious to you;the Lordlift up His countenance upon you,and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
What is that giant glowing orb in the sky today? Oh yeah, I remember now…it’s the sun. We just haven’t seen it much this winter in our part of the country with rain upon rain upon rain lately. But oh boy, that sunshine today is a welcome sight, shoving aside the winter dreariness!
Although everyone gets somewhat depressed from lack of sunshine in the winter, I know people who truly suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD for short) and needto be in the sun. Just a brief time outdoors gives us a vitamin D boost and improves our outlook.
We all need to be bathed in the light of the countenance of God as well. When the Bible pronounces that priestly blessing upon us (in verse above), it shows the craving we have for receiving His favor, to have the glow from His face and presence to shine upon us. It blesses us.
May God turn His face upon you today, to bathe you in His love and mercy. May He make your own face radiant as you spend time in His presence.
Gracious Lord, thank You for the return of sunshine after the clouds and rain/snow. Bless us all today by shining Your light into our lives. Renew our faith in Your great compassion. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
