The Privileged Life: Water

F4B2B8A1-7578-4BEC-AD5A-F176604FFF67.jpeg“…whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14

If you’ve ever drunk water from a clear, icy mountain creek, you know how good it tastes on a hot summer day.

The artesian spring behind my mom’s 200-year-old birthplace in Appalachian Alabama produces a constant flow of the purest water I’ve ever tasted…makes awesome iced sweet tea! (That’s a Southern thing…very important….)

Whenever I read the story of Jesus speaking with the woman at the well, promising His “living water,” I picture that Alabama artesian spring, crystal clear and nourishing, a fountain of life for those who built the old home near it. It reminds me that when we plant our hearts close to Christ, we have constant access to the “living water” of His Holy Spirit, giving us the abundant life we desire. It’s a foretaste, too, of the river of life in heaven, described in Revelation. What a wonderful promise for us to enjoy someday, where we will never thirst again!

Dear Jesus, thank You for giving us abundant life here on earth and the promise of “living water” from Your Holy Spirit. Let us drink deeply every day as we build our lives closer to You. In Your name, Amen.

Williams is the author of "A Crocus in the Desert: Devotions, Stories, and Prayers for Women Experiencing Infertility"—a devotional book offering hope and encouragement to women who are overwhelmed by anguish, guilt, and isolation as they cope with longing for motherhood. This book offers support and solace, life lessons from faithful women of the Bible, Scriptures of hope, and reassurance that God hears your prayers and has a good plan for your life. ===== Williams is also author of "To Love a Falcon," a novel that begins with a true top-secret World War II mission involving Nancy’s father-in-law and the “murder” of a Russian naval officer he befriended. The rest of the story, based on the Russian fairy tale “Finist the Falcon,” follows a fictional female mechanic who is swept up in Soviet intrigues along with a MiG jet test pilot. "To Love a Falcon" takes readers into the treachery of Russian operatives, the stark landscape of Siberian winters, and the courage of those who risk death for faith and love.
