Turning Mountains into Molehills as a Way of Life for me

The title of my first book is Turning Mountains into Molehills. I also used this phrase as the name for my blog site. I think most of us are more familiar with the term “making a mountain out of a molehill.” So this take on the common saying left some people wondering about the meaning behind the title.

The Story of Turning Mountains into Molehills

On one of our early mission trips, we formed a team of almost twenty people to travel to Russia to work with children and share the gospel. With such a large group, we needed to raise a lot of money. At times, this task felt impossible. We prayed, but doubts still crept in. Even our pastor scoffed and asked us what would happen if we could not raise enough funds. Then, one glorious day we secured all the money needed, and we purchased the tickets. My husband, Bill, commented that God was turning our mountains into molehills when we trusted Him. The saying stuck with me.

“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”

Mark 11:23

Our Mountains

My book is a memoir of how God was turning mountains into molehills during our many years of mission work. And, as I look back over my life, I see all the times God worked to level out the tough spots in my life. What about you? Can you think of times that God has made the impossible possible?

Every mountain top is within reach if you just keep climbing.”

Around or Over the Mountain

In another post recently, I talked about our hike to the highest point in Oklahoma, and it gave me another perspective on how God helps us conquer our mountains. You can read more about it here. The six-hour trail tested me more than I expected. As I think about that day, I realize that when we trust God with the task, we need to keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. When I finished, I saw how God allowed me to overcome the obstacle in front of me once again. The view from the top also refreshed my soul for the remainder of the trip.

The best view comes after the hardest climb.

Trust the Route to God

God can move mountains out of our way, or He can reduce them to molehills so we can pass over them easily. The key is to trust Him with the mountain when it appears on our horizon. The Apostle James reminds us in James 1:6, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” Our Heavenly Father knows the best route for us.

Mountains provide me with a powerful reminder of God. We find many references to them in the Bible also. Those words from our ancestors encourage us on our journey. Psalm 121:1-2 is another favorite of mine; “1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Praise God for turning mountains into molehills or enjoy the view from the top when He takes you over the mountain.

Memories made in the mountains stay in our hearts forever.”

Prayer

Dearest Jesus. Thank you for all the times You were turning mountains into molehills. And thank you for the times You did not. Help me to appreciate the route You chose for me to walk. I want to praise You for the views and the miracles of each scenario. I love You always. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Grace and Peace to you,
