What does it mean to be rich?
If it means you are too busy with everything else and fall short in personal prayer and meditation of God’s word, then you are actually the poorest person on the planet.
Today, by God’s grace, most believers have food and clothing (1 Timothy 6:8). But, are they content with it to labour for the kingdom of God? Or is the desire for more “things” become a norm. The desire to build an earthly standard at par with the worldly? Including church believers who are increasingly worldly.
Even in the middle of a great revival, many believers will be found wanting spiritually. Why? Their love for money, in the guise of “need to survive”, has blinded them from suffering for Christ. Not giving available time for God. Most look at others rather than staying focused on fulfilling God’s plan.
You are a rich person when you walk with Jesus
Ananias and Sapphira were too blinded by their earthly riches at the peak of the early New Testament ministry. When God was evidently doing great wonders and miracles, their love for money did not allow them to see an eternity with God. (Acts 5:1-16)
Gehazi served mighty Elisha, still fell for earthly riches. He failed to see the glory of God despite being with a great man of God. His eyes were fixed on money (2 Kings 5:20-27).
Judas chose wealth over God’s righteous Word, Jesus. Simon, the sorcerer, though saved, actually believed that he could get the Holy Spirit by offering money. There is ample evidence in the word of God with regard to the love of money disrupting our walk with God.
Labour not to be rich (Proverbs 23:4). Strive for the kingdom of God (John 6:27). There is no heavy labouring required when God blesses anyone materially (Proverbs 10:22).
We are saved to save others. Saving money to give others is good. Saving time by redeeming others is God’s will. Our entire journey ends when God fulfils the latter till we are completely transformed. Transformed to meet Jesus. Maranatha, Praise God and Amen!
