Worries Erupt As South Africa Decides To Accept Human Genome Editing

Heritable Human Genome Editing is a critical scientific step that should be banned. Although South Africa is taking the lead in making it permissible. What does the Bible say about our ethics and touch with nature?

In this article, I want to talk about the new development of Heritable human genome editing (HHGE) and how South Africa’s new guidelines give room for adequate research into it. However, it is said the research must undergo a comprehensive ethical review. Afterward, the research is said to proceed only if it is determined to have clear, demonstrable benefits for the individual and society as a whole, with strict oversight maintained throughout.

Well, this is a step that could have a lot of benefits on human health and aid in the cure of heritable diseases. But this same step could also be a big problem for human existence. Are we humans even ready for the risks? Think about it for a moment.

This is a new development and many of us are yet to properly understand. I will run this modification ideology through the lens of the Bible to understand why science and technology are going too extreme in contending with God —hence provoking Him to pour out His wrath on humans.

I don’t see that there is a 100% guarantee of risks-free. And societal impacts must be carefully evaluated. I believe this research is too extreme and so must be banned.

Please, this is a heartfelt message, so don’t forget to share it with friends and loved ones.

Take a look at the world today. And ask yourself where are we heading to? Science and technology have been a great help in almost every sector of human development. But when it comes to critical areas like health, further security measures are needed. The smallest mistake could be catastrophic to human life.

I’m greatly concerned about the weird development of interest in human genome modification ideology sweeping over the world.

I see anyone who touches nature as touching the Creator. And so any touch must be aligned with His will. Today, I sense that this scientific world is going extreme in its alternation with Mother Nature.

Understanding The Meaning Of Heritable Human Genome Editing (HHGE)

    If you are unsure of what this Heritable Human Genome Editing (HHGE) is about then pay attention here;

Heritable Human genome editing involves the process of making genetic modifications to human eggs, sperm, or embryos, which would be passed down to future generations.

One major reason is to help prevent heritable diseases such as sickle cell disease. Sadly there is no 100% assurance of success without any complications throughout the future generations.

Does this sound good at all? Alternations to nature with respect to humans who are the image of God is a dangerous step that could have moral and spiritual consequences.

Today, South Africa is about to take a groundbreaking record of allowing such questionable health research to be carried on. Some other African countries have banned this practice outright.

In an interview with “Nature,” Professor Baylis said:

‘I know of no other country that explicitly permits this type of research and can’t understand why South Africa would want to be the first to do so.’

This practice hasn’t been fully tested and approved by any major health center or organization (e.g. WHO), and so serious laws are implemented to regulate it.

While the law in South Africa currently remains unchanged, there have been some latest guidelines that may lay the groundwork for potential legal changes to allow heritable human genome editing in the future. So the future is likely to be flooded with Genome-edited humans. Which I believe could escalate to something weird.

    Scientific research

Currently no country in our world today explicitly permits the practice in clinical settings, not even China.

    Remember what the Bible says:

“All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.” – 1 Corinthians 10:23 American Standard Version (ASV)

The new development from South Africa’s Health Department appears to position the country as the first to explicitly permit the use of genome editing to create genetically modified children.

What kind of technology children are they aiming to produce for the generation to come? Are we not already fed up with robots, human cloning, and the weird side of AI?

This has been a grave concern to me and several other God-fearing people. It appears that we are constantly testing the patience of God.

    Ban heritable Human Genome Editing

If I run this whole development through the lens of the Bible, then there we will find ourselves wanting —if this is encouraged by scientists and other so-called health professionals.

I pray and hope this is banned outright. Touching the genome or human embryo to modify it to a wishful desired appearance is an insult to God’s creation.

Why Not Ban Human Genome Editing To Save The Dignity Of Humanity?

Heritable human genome editing (HHGE) isn’t entertained in the majority of countries with relevant policies.

Today, over 70 countries have banned it outright on using genome editing techniques to produce genetically modified children. Others may use it for research purposes with strict regulations.

In all, I find this stage as just a prototype or the beginning of something weird and bigger. The book of 2 Timothy 3 said in the last days we will see decay in morality, ethics and see more evil deeds.

Now let me explain to you some of the reasons I believe it is necessary to ban Heritable Human genome editing.

    Unintended Consequences

Touching the embryo to modify it with external settings could be catastrophic. It might bring about weird mutations through editing errors.

Please, we don’t want to see mutant humans from Marvel’s X-Men movies come into real life. We ain’t ready for such creatures.

    Ethical Concerns

Already, there has been a lot of public backlash, but it doesn’t seem enough. We can’t eschew ethics and do whatever we like. Some scientists could abuse this when allowed. Who knows what one can potentially do in his lab? We already see weird human cloning creatures, and this could worsen it.

God cannot be played with. And no one can play “God.” Are these scientists not trying to play “God” by creating what God did not create? Let them call it evolution or whatever. But it still contradicts the purpose of God.

    Designer Babies

What sort of babies will this practice bring into our world? Designer babies of all kinds, as if humans are produced by a big fashion company? If this is not banned, there is the possibility of someone misusing it to accomplish weird non-health-related traits such as unusual intelligence or physical appearance.

And then, imagine seeing a baby with green-colored eyes, silver-colored hair, radiant skin, high IQ, unusual height, etc. Raising a generation of such customized babies would be disheartening.

Thanks for reading through. Please share this with friends and loved ones. Let them also know where this pitiful world is heading.

Let me know your thoughts concerning this Heritable human genome editing (HHGE), trying to take our human population and the next generation. I’m greatly concerned what about you?
