In 1933, a man from Austria of modest origins ascended to the position of Chancellor in Germany. He was the driving force behind the Nazi Party, which propagated extensive propaganda vilifying the Jewish population.

Adolf Hitler, characterized by his creative intellect but ruthless authoritarianism, played a central role in engineering World War II. This conflict was responsible for the loss of more than 50 million lives.

From 1941 to 1945, the Holocaust unfolded as a systematic campaign of genocide against European Jews. Approximately six million Jews perished in gas chambers or through brutal forced labor in concentration camps. Hitler wielded his charismatic and persuasive oratory skills to captivate the masses, politicians, and industrialists. He convinced them to follow him as their chosen leader, seemingly imbued with divine authority. His insatiable thirst for power and dominance was overshadowed only by his overwhelming pride.

But, unknown to many people, Adolf Hitler was a drug user. Many of the Nazi Army were also physically fueled and boosted by a combination of powerful and addictive drugs on the battlefield.

The historical facts surrounding Hitler's drug use and the drugging of the Nazi Army boggle the mind. The sin of Pride and powerful chemicals have influenced his actions and leadership during one of the darkest periods in human history.

The medications of Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler was the 'Fuhrer of drugs' - BBC News

Hitler's personal physician, Dr. Theodor Morell, were instrumental in supplying him with a cocktail of medications throughout his time in power. According to the Daily Mail, "Adolf Hitler was a drug-abusing hypochondriac…who regularly consumed a cocktail of amphetamines, bull semen, rat poison, and morphine when he sent millions of innocent people to their death."

Some of the critical drugs administered to Hitler include:

Amphetamines (Pervitin)

Hitler regularly used methamphetamines, commonly known as "Pervitin" in Germany. Today, this drug is popularly known as "crack cocaine," a powerful addictive street drug. Dr. Morell initially prescribed these potent stimulants to help the dictator combat fatigue, improve his mood, and increase his energy levels. It is reported that Hitler received daily injections of amphetamines.

Barbiturates

To counteract the stimulating effects of amphetamines and ensure Hitler could sleep, Dr. Morell prescribed barbiturates, such as barbital and brom-Nervacit. These sedatives induced sleep but posed the risk of addiction and potential overdose.

Opiates

Hitler suffered from various health issues, including chronic abdominal pain and migraine headaches. Consequently, he was administered opiates, such as Eukodal (a brand of oxycodone) and morphine, for pain relief. The prolonged use of these narcotics can lead to addiction and withdrawal symptoms.

Other medications

Hitler received various other medications, including vitamins, hormones, and digestive aids. Some of these substances, like testosterone, were administered to enhance his vitality and virility.

The implications of his leadership

The impact of Hitler's drug addiction on his leadership and decision-making is a topic of historical debate. While it is challenging to establish direct causation, several facts suggest that his drug use may have had significant consequences:

1. Erratic behavior. The combination of stimulants and sedatives in Hitler's drug regimen could have contributed to his erratic behavior, mood swings, and impulsivity. This habit may help explain some of the inexplicable decisions made during his time in power.

2. Paranoia and delusion. Prolonged use of amphetamines and other drugs can lead to paranoia, megalomania, and delusional thinking. Hitler's increasing distrust of his inner circle and his belief in conspiracy theories may have been exacerbated by the psychological effects of these substances.

3. Physical decline. Hitler's health significantly deteriorated during his rule. His drug regimen likely weakened his physical and mental health, making it challenging for him to maintain a coherent and stable leadership.

Boosting the army on the battlefield

World War II was a global conflict that reshaped the course of history, where Nazi Germany was at the forefront of military innovation. Amid the advanced weaponry and tactics, a dark and often overlooked aspect of the war effort exists. The Nazis extensively used powerful and prohibited drugs on the battlefield.

At the heart was a highly potent stimulant known as Pervitin, which contained methamphetamine. Developed by the pharmaceutical company Temmler-Werke, this drug was initially introduced as a civilian medication for various ailments, including depression and fatigue.

The HuffPost reports, "Nazi troops used crystal meth as a 'miracle pill' to stay awake during marches, according to letters from one of Germany's leading post-war writers. Called an 'alertness aid' and packaged under the name Pervitin, Hitler's soldiers popped the class A drug to keep motivated despite the desperate conditions they faced on the front lines."

Pervitin was widely distributed to pilots and foot soldiers to combat fatigue, increase alertness, and enhance endurance. It allowed troops to stay awake for extended periods, enabling them to fight longer and harder.

Pervitin was just one element of the Nazi drug regimen. Soldiers were also administered other substances, such as opiates like morphine and synthetic painkillers, to manage injuries sustained in battle. These drugs offered temporary relief but often led to addiction, contributing to the overall toll on soldiers' well-being.

Effects on soldiers and ethical dilemma

The effects of Pervitin on soldiers were both immediate and long-lasting. While it temporarily boosted energy and alertness, it came with a severe price. Users often experience intense restlessness, anxiety, hallucinations, and paranoia. As its effects wore off, the drug's crash led to extreme exhaustion and depression.

Over time, the long-term consequences of Pervitin use became apparent. Many soldiers who relied on the drug became addicted, and their health deteriorated significantly. Mental health disorders, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), were more common among those who used the drug.

Using potent stimulants like Pervitin by the Nazi army raises profound ethical questions. Soldiers were not provided with informed consent about the potential risks and side effects of these drugs. This lack of transparency and coercion in their use challenges the very principles of medical ethics.

Pride: The father of all sins

Proverbs 16:18 (Bible verse image from Bible Portal)

"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18

As one of history's most wicked figures, Hitler displayed extreme pride. Driven by his narcissism and fixation, he exalted himself and declared the Aryans the supreme race destined to dominate the world.

Hitler had no genuine belief in God and placed himself squarely at the center of his existence. He battled paranoia and grappled with schizophrenia. He also suffered anxiety, delusions of persecution, and a distorted sense of omnipotence and messianic destiny. Hitler's arrogance catalyzed the horrifying atrocities that swept across Europe.

At the center of Hitler is the sin of Pride and the dark, evil influence of drugs.

Hitler's ambitions and actions were driven by a deep-seated sense of pride, arrogance, and an unwavering belief in his own ideology. Throughout his life, Hitler displayed a haughty spirit, believing himself to be a messianic figure and the savior of his nation. He pursued expansionist and genocidal policies that ultimately led to the destruction of Nazi Germany and his downfall.

The Bible warns us against excessive pride and arrogance. When individuals become too full of themselves or think too highly of their abilities, they are more likely to experience a downfall or failure.

The legacy of Adolf Hitler is epitomized by his frenzied outbursts as a drug addict and the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust. The haunting images of the Holocaust are undeniable proof that such horrific acts could only be perpetrated by someone in a disturbed and vile state of mind.

Throughout history, the evil intention of Satan has always been unleashed in mass through the pride, deception, and enigma of tyrants, despots, and other leaders. But God is light. When we put our faith and trust in God, He guides our people on a holy and righteous path.
