Be Still and Know I Am God

“Be
still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be
exalted in the earth.”
  (Psalm 46:10)

In
the complex world we live in, many things compete for our attention.  This world has changed enormously since the
words of this Psalm were written.  Yet,
the timeless truth expressed here is critical to the well-being of your
soul.   As the dew refreshes the grass in
the quiet of early morning, so the presence of God restores our soul as we sit
quietly with Him.

For
those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, it is winter; a time of snow and
ice.  Driving on the

highway becomes a
dangerous exercise that requires experience and the proper equipment.  When we were still living in Alaska, the use
of chains and studs on our tires became imperative, otherwise we might not
arrive at our destination safely. Because of the extremely low temperatures,
even sitting at street intersections would cause a buildup of ice under the car’s
exhaust pipe, and make gaining traction for the next vehicle a problem when the
traffic control light turned green.

Like
the spinning wheels of a car stuck on ice, our minds spin helplessly when
focused on trivial things.  With our
minds refreshed, we are able to sort out what is important and what is
not.  As soon as you begin to communicate
with God, your thoughts gain traction and your thinking can begin to move
forward.

If
we communicate with God continually, He will put His thoughts in our
minds.

“For
God is not the author of confusion but of peace…”
(1 Corinthians 14:33)
