From the Inside Out: Making the Decision of the Heart

"Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea so that the redeemed might cross over?" - Isaiah 51:10

When we immerse ourselves in the profound imagery of Isaiah 51:10, we encounter a message of hope and transformation. It speaks of God's power to turn what seems impossible into a path of redemption.

This verse offers a compelling perspective on decision-making, particularly the kind that emanates deep within our hearts.

In our daily lives, we are often swayed by the cacophony of external influences – the opinions of others, societal norms, and the relentless pace of modern life.

Amidst this noise, the concept of making decisions 'from the inside out' becomes not just relevant but vital. It’s about listening to that quiet, inner voice, guided by the Holy Spirit, to find our way in a world that often seems chaotic and overwhelming.

But how does one navigate this inner journey, especially when the seas around us are stormy and unpredictable?

Firstly, seeking moments of calm is essential. In the stillness of early mornings or the tranquility of a quiet space, we can truly listen to our inner selves and, more importantly, to God. This quiet time is a sanctuary where we can reflect and find clarity.

Engaging in heartfelt prayer is another critical step. Prayer is our direct communication with God, a sacred space to share our deepest fears, hopes, and uncertainties. Our inner compass often becomes clear in these moments of prayerful conversation.

The scriptures also serve as a guiding light. They are not just historical texts but a living, breathing guide. When we reflect on verses like Isaiah 51:10, we align our thoughts and decisions with the wisdom and guidance of God’s word.

Another aspect of this journey involves seeking wisdom from others who share our faith. Their insights, borne of their walks with God, can provide invaluable perspectives and help us see things in a new light.

Ultimately, making decisions from the heart is about trusting God’s plan. It’s an acknowledgment that, even though we might not see the entire path ahead, we know and trust the One who has created it. It’s about faith in the unseen and trust in the journey.

Finally, decision-making is not just contemplation – it’s also about action. We are called to step out in faith after seeking God, listening to our hearts, and considering wise counsel. In taking these steps, our decisions, rooted deeply in our hearts, come to life.

So, 'Making the Decision of the Heart' is more than a process; it's a journey of faith, prayer, and surrender. It’s about looking beyond the visible, seeking guidance in the depths of our hearts, and trusting in God’s plan.

As we navigate our personal 'Red Seas,' let’s remember the power and promise in Isaiah’s words – God can create pathways where none seem to exist, guiding us from the inside out in our decision-making journey.

When God Throws a Little Bit of “All Things” in Your Life

I love Romans 8:28. Now, let me be honest…sometimes I don’t. When I am going through a dark time of loss or disappointment, and someone throws a sloppy coat of Romans 8:28 on my open wound, I just want to scream. There. I said it. Paul wrote: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, Read more...

What does it mean to have childlike faith?

What do you think of when you hear the word “childlike?”For many of us, “childlike” might bring to mind something immature, foolish, or naive. Yet when Jesus talked about childlike faith, he wasn’t asking us to be any of these things. He was inviting us into something pure, trusting, and real. This week, I got to help lead worship at a kids' camp. Watching the kids worship was such a beautiful reminder of what childlike faith truly looks like. These kids worshiped, prayed, and talked about God.
