Sacred Healing: Embracing the prayerful pathway out of anxiety

When people are anxious, we try everything to make us feel better. Some of us would love to drink coffee in our favorite cafe. Others like to go to the beach and think the sea waves would give them tranquility.

Other people go to counseling, hoping they can help them heal. Nothing is wrong with all these things, but when our anxiety level is so deep, these things are just temporary band-aids to our pain.

Angela Bond had always lived with anxiety. It was like a shadow that followed her every day. It made her sleep poorly and react quickly to people around her. Angela was always scared that something terrible would happen if she didn't do things right.

She wasn't very nice to people because of her anxiety, so she tried hard to get better. Angela talked about trying counseling and a unique brain therapy called EMDR.

She wanted to heal and not hurt people anymore. That's why she decided to try something called the Encounter Healing Ministry. There, people prayed with her. They asked Jesus to show her whom she needed to forgive. Surprisingly, she thought of many people, even those she hadn't thought about for years.

Angela learned that forgiving people is something you do, not just something you feel. During the prayers, they asked the Holy Spirit to help her in every session.

After praying, Angela felt lighter, like an enormous weight was removed. She felt loved and saw in her mind that Jesus was calling her. She realized Jesus showed her the truth and what he wanted for her life.

The healing wasn't quick, and she wasn't all better immediately, but it was a good start. She started feeling better and got closer to Jesus when she felt anxious.

She understood the lies she used to believe that made her hurt. She started seeing the truth. She decided that when she felt anxious, she would pray.

At the end of her story, Angela said she went to her counselor one day and realized she was healed. She didn't need to go back. The counselor was surprised. Angela used to feel a deep sadness inside her, but after praying, she couldn't find that sadness anymore.

It may sound cliche, but prayer is powerful once we allow Jesus Christ to work in our hearts. Like Angel, we may have tried everything possible to ease the pain, but only through Jesus could we experience complete and eternal healing.

The more we pray and seek Him, the more He will reveal Himself to us and help us with all our burdens.

As Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

God did not design us to become anxious all the days of our lives. He cares so much that He gave His beloved son to carry all these burdens so we could experience joy without worries.

We just have to make every effort to pray every time our anxiety attacks us.
