How Christians Can Speak Biblical Truth Into a Toxic Cancel Culture, With Erwin Lutzer—The Alisa Childers Podcast #106

Picture

Erwin Lutzer joins me on today's podcast to discuss how Christians can live out our convictions in a growing tide of hostility. In a culture of outrage and victimhood, how can we recognize and reject the toxic responses secular culture disguises as solutions while continuing to publicly testify the truth of the gospel?

Recently discovered your podcast. I'm a big fan. Apologetics is my love language.

I had been planning to beg you to get Erwin Lutzer on and boom here he is. I am burning through his book as we speak. I'm getting yours next.

God bless and keep up the great work.

Alisa I love your book reviews and your podcast! I have recently read the new book “The Making of Biblical Womanhood” by Beth Allison Barr because my family and some of my Christian friends love it. She proposes that “biblical womanhood” isn’t biblical, but arose due to secular patriarchal influences. I would really love for you to review this book!!!

On this podcast you mention we have racism. We only have this term because people have been indoctrinated via satan and his demons.
Of God through Adam there is ONLY one race the HUMAN race.
God created many CULTURES. God saves many people from many cultures.
This is what you and reformed preachers need to say from the microphone, the pulpit, conferences, magazines Sunday school etc.
Saying the above neutralize confrontation.
Again satan says race/racism to divide and conquer via through marxism and communism.

I listened to your podcast #106 with great interest and immediately bought E Lutzer’s book. One of the first things I did while reading Chapter 1 was go to the BLM website referenced in the Note #3 to read for myself “ What We Believe.” What came up was “this page does not exist.” Could you comment as this goes to credibility especially with the skeptics. Thank you.

Hi Alisa,

I recognize this is an old post, but I think it is the best place to leave my question/challenge. This one is for anyone in the “Historic Christianity” camp:

I am not woke. I believe anyone who has an interest in discovering truth should support free speech and free inquiry. I think cancel culture is illiberal and silly. I am skeptical of the claims of CR theorists because their claims appear to be unfalsifiable by design. I grew up in a (mostly) Christian family and I will always defend their right to worship and speak freely, so matter how much I disagree with them.

I think we have a lot in common. The thing is, though, I have been “deconstructing,” but not for the reasons most churchgoers leave historic Christianity. I didn’t wake up and say, “Christianity is backwards. It isn’t woke enough for me. I’m leaving.” I began to doubt the claims of historic Christianity for the same reason I doubt the claims of woke ideologues…both seem to be build on the sand of flawed epistemology.

I’m curious what your take is on “deconstructors” like me who don’t fit the woke mold that current apologetics seems to be geared toward confronting.

Thanks!

Your podcast featuring the tattooed couple and the other and his second wife has to be the biggest waste of an hour of my life ever. I thought you were going to discuss CCM which has taken over most churches, and not in a good way.
First, why do you think God forbid the Children of Israel to cut or mark themselves? (I believe that would include tattoos.)
Second, why have most evangelical churches turned their sanctuaries into disco like atmospheres, complete with artificial smoke and rock bands? Didn't Jesus say something about our being the "light" of the world? Why must we sit in worship centers so dark that one could not read his Bible, even if it were opened.
If the apostle Paul was wrong about the length of a man's hair and submission of the wife to the husband, how do we know if he got it right in Romans when he said, "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
