I’m LOVING Spray Paint!

DIY

After several inspiration posts on Pinterest, I have decided that I LOVE spray paint! For all you “real wood” lovers out there, I do have an antique dresser that I want to redo, and I will want to strip it and stain it, but for this old dresser that nobody wanted, I decided to try the two tone look and stick it in my bathroom. I get half of the dresser for my craft/sewing supplies, and my hubby gets the other half for his hunting stuff so he doesn’t have to wake me up at 3 a.m. in the morning when he’s shuffling around trying to find what he needs for those early morning hunts!

This year, after 30 years of marriage, we finally purchased our first bedroom set.  Since no one wanted our old dresser, I just couldn’t let it go to waste, so I thought I’d “practice” on it with spray paint. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose… and LOVED how it turned out!

This dresser was our first dresser as a married couple. When we got married, we rented a furnished apartment at Southwestern Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. We were only there 10 months until he was called to be a youth pastor in Pilot Point, TX. WIth no furniture, we decided to buy a sofa sleeper so that we’d have a bed and a couch! We weren’t there long before a gracious family donated their old bedroom suit–a king-size bed and a dresser! We were thrilled, and even though the bed barely fit in our room, we were more than happy to have it!

I used Krylon spray paint in PEBBLE and IVORY after rubbing the dresser down with LIQUID SANDER.  It was so easy!  I removed the hardware prior to painting the drawers and opted to paint them in the ivory as well.

Our budget only allowed us to buy two new dressers, so I SPRAY PAINTED the night stands and the headboard!  It matches the color of our new dressers so well, we won’t have to purchase the matching pieces later.

You won’t believe it, but this nightstand is spray painted with the same oil-rubbed bronze I used on some hardware in my bathroom!

Here’s the hardware with the same paint!

I also had in my bathroom a small three drawer cabinet that was green metal and brown wicker, so I just took the IVORY paint and painted that whole thing as well!

It seems that there’s no end to what a little spray paint can do, and for me–a person that’s always wanting to “freshen things up”, it’s a cheap, easy way to give a room a new look.  After a fresh coat of paint on the walls, it looks like a new bathroom!  Besides the cost of our dressers (which was our Christmas/Anniversary present), our  master makeover cost me four cans of spray paint and a little elbow grease–not bad!
