Releasing Shame and Finding Value in Our Age - Denise Pass

Shame RX: Shame from our age happens when we don’t see our value.

2 Corinthians 4:16

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.”

The jokes abound when you are suddenly viewed in a different light because of a certain number  of years you have lived on this earth.

And I chuckle at myself, too.

When your kids start to make remarks, too, you  realize that you are indeed aging. Not that this is a  surprising revelation, right? Yet it surprises us, nonetheless.

But this year, hitting a new decade of numbers made me pause. There are thresholds our society places on us due to our age. I daresay that the older generation is shamed if they would try something that the  younger are viewed as being better suited for.

But when we stop doing things because of our age, we are giving in to shame.

The years seem to be flying at a rapid rate and we try to still look the same, because appearance is valued in our culture. But aging happens to us all . . . if we are blessed.

Rather than seeing myself as becoming less relevant, I now see the wisdom that has increased as I have drawn nearer to God and understood things in a different light over the sands of time.

Shame from our age happens when we don’t see our value or when we value what the world does. God’s word values and honors the older generation. But even if the world would shame us for something we  cannot control, we can choose to be grateful for the gift of life and see the value within our souls. God has a purpose for each one on this earth, regardless of age. Keep on keeping on and live each day boldly for Jesus. The world may tell us to stop or to slow down,   but we are still in the race called life as long as we  draw breath, and we continue at our own pace. There’s no shame in that.
