Some lessons learnt from the life of Abigail

Good day beautiful people

I hope that this post finds you well? In today’s write up we will be delving into the life of an inspirational woman named Abigail. This review has been inspired by 1 Samuel 25 and I pray that it’s a blessing and source of encouragement to all who read.

1 Samuel 25:3 ~ “This man’s name was Nabal, and his wife, Abigail, was a sensible and beautiful woman. But Nabal, a descendant of Caleb, was crude and mean in all his dealings.”

^^^Gleaning from verse 3 of 1 Samuel chapter 25, I made the observation that being beautiful is great but what’s even greater is being sensible.

1 Samuel 25:18-20 ~ “Abigail wasted no time. She quickly gathered 200 loaves of bread, two wineskins full of wine, five sheep that had been slaughtered, nearly a bushel of roasted grain, 100 clusters of raisins, and 200 fig cakes. She packed them on donkeys and said to her servants, “Go on ahead. I will follow you shortly.” But she didn’t tell her husband Nabal what she was doing. As she was riding her donkey into a mountain ravine, she saw David and his men coming toward her.”

^^^In verses 18-20 we’re shown a picture of Abigail using her initiative by taking action immediately to mitigate disaster from coming upon a community of people. She saddled her donkey to meet up with David as soon as she heard about a pending conflict that could result in the loss of life. She was a competent woman…She knew how to ride a donkey. She was an intelligent woman, who made a valuable contribution which led to the preservation of life. She pursued peace at all costs. This tells me that women have an important part to play when it comes to preserving good morals within society. Women have the ability to help in the building up of law-abiding, godly and honest communities.

Romans 12:18 ~ Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.

1 Samuel 25:24 ~ “She fell at his feet and said, “I accept all blame in this matter, my Lord. Please listen to what I have to say.”

^^^Verse 24 really really hit me hard. Abigail apologised to David for something she didn’t even do 🤯🤯🤯! I mean some of us find it hard to say sorry even when we may know that we’re in the wrong. Saying sorry from a genuine heart even when you’re not at fault has the power to diffuse negative situations. In this case Abigail apologised on behalf of her husband which led to a positive outcome for not only herself but her entire household. She took the blame. (Btw I’m not saying that we should be doormats but I do believe that on certain occasions we simply have to let go and let God for the sake of peace). At this moment I’m reminded of the fact that we serve a wonderful Saviour, He never sinned (1 Corinthians 5:21) yet paid the price for our sin, so, that we may be free from the power of sin…. Jesus thank you for bearing our sins (1 Peter 2:24). God is great.

1 Samuel 25:33 ~ “Thank God for your good sense! Bless you for keeping me from murder and from carrying out vengeance with my own hands.”

^^^Verse 33 highlights that Abigail was a woman who had sense. Women we have brains which we can use to bring God glory. We have gifts and talents therefore don’t let anybody else tell you otherwise. We must strive to gain wisdom and acquire knowledge about the God we serve. We should utilise our skills wisely and get extra training if needs be.

1 Samuel 25:34 ~ “For I swear by the Lord, the God of Israel, who has kept me from hurting you, that if you had not hurried out to meet me, not one of Nabal’s men would still be alive tomorrow morning.”

^^^Verse 34 reminds us of the importance of not being slow when it comes to doing the right thing. As children of God we should be quick to show love and kindness to others. Let us be quick to forgive and make peace.

I pray that you all have a wonderful week ahead. Stay strong in faith.

What the Angels Said — Carol McLeod Ministries

Angels are an intrinsic and dynamic part of the Christmas story. Christmas simply would not have occurred without these God-sent messengers from heaven. The Mall or the Manger?

Much has changed since the God of the universe decorated the night sky with the star of Bethlehem and directed the choir of angels in a chorus announcing the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. But the commercialism doesn’t have to rule in our hearts and homes. This year let’s focus on the Christ Child and remember the true meaning of the holiday season. As we turn our eyes to the Babe in the manger, we will not view Christmas as a dreaded obligation or a major retail event. It will be a time of joyous celebration, honoring the One Who came to give us eternal life and worshipping our Heavenly Father.
