The hard work of waiting - Divorce Minister

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

-Ephesians 6:13, NKJV

Waiting on God is tough.

So much in our lives we do not control. All we control is our own choices and  behaviors.

This is one of the hardest lessons to learn when dealing with a cheater and infidelity in general. We are not in control of our cheater!

Right now, I am in a season of waiting.

After losing my day job, I am waiting on the next assignment from God. I have applied to a wide variety of chaplain jobs and am waiting on hiring/interviewing verdicts.

I am choosing to walk by faith trusting in God’s goodness and faithfulness just as I did while dealing with my first wife’s infidelity and abandonment.

A pastor, Steve Backlund, had this to say about the verse quoted above:*

“When faced with unsettled matters, scripture teaches us two steps to take: 1) Do all we know to do. …2) After doing all we know to do, STAND. Standing is purposing to not be moved from the belief that God is working in the situation in a mighty way. Standing is resting, trusting, thanking and obeying the last thing that God said about the circumstance.”

I hope this thought from Pastor Steve Backlund ministers to you as it has and does for me in this time of waiting and standing.

+A version of this post ran previously. While I am no longer in the season of waiting for a job as when I wrote this, I am in another, of course. The spiritual training and warfare never ends.
