What Are Human Beings That You Are Mindful of Them? ‣ Praying Through the Bible

Psalm 8

The structure of Psalm 8 falls naturally into four parts. The writer first celebrates God’s glory in creation. This leads to the realization of humanity’s insignificance in the face of God’s majesty and holiness. However, the psalmist knows that God has a plan and a role for human beings, which causes the psalmist to return once again to praising God.

The Worship Service

The worship service follows this pattern (as did the sermon). In addition, the service opens and closes with the same song, echoing the inclusio (vv 1 and 9) ofthe Psalm itself. This service used the modern “youth” or “praise” song by Michael W. Smith, but the traditional (and more difficult) song by H.R. Palmer is another option.
