50 of 100 Fun Summer Activities Indoors Edition

1. Take a relaxing virtual vacation!
In 2020, so many of people’s favorite vacation destinations went online since travel was restricted. For example, always wanted to visit Australia? Check out Australia 360 video and immerse yourself in a relaxing experience.
I know, I know, it doesn’t quite measure up to being there in person but it’s still fun, right?
You might be surprised where you can virtually “visit.” Just Google where you’d like to go (i.e. San Diego zoo, a certain country, aquarium, etc) and add the words “virtual tour” after it. Grab a comfy chair, sit back, and enjoy!
2. Make homemade popsicles
It’s surprisingly simple! Check out these healthy homemade popsicle recipes for inspiration.
3. Update your home
Feeling like your house is missing the coziness of home? No better time than the present to make a change that reflects the new and improved you.
Take a Udemy course on decluttering, find the perfect color palette for a design redo, or even just rearrange the space to make it feel new.
Give away the items you no longer need for an extra mental health boost! It feels good to do good!
4. Do a mid-year evaluation
At the start of summer, we are halfway through the year! Can you believe it? Take a look at your goals. What have you achieved and what would you still like to do? What has worked for you this year and what hasn’t?
Failure isn’t bad – it’s just a road sign pointing in a different direction.
Evaluating yourself and your achievements is not about judging yourself. Be gentle but honest. Find out what you’ve done well and where you can improve. Growth is good; we should all aim for more of that!
Ask yourself this question: Is what I’m doing today getting me closer to where I’d like to be tomorrow, next month, next year, etc? If the answer is no – change your habits, patterns, perspectives, and actions until you find your yes.
5. Go cold brew
Hey, maybe even try a cold brew coffee while you’re working on your mid-year evaluation? 🙂
In all seriousness, if I have an addiction, it’s to my iced coffee. I’ve discovered the perfect blend of cinnamon vanilla Stevia, sugar free/dairy free Oat & Coconut milk half and half. Mmm Mmm Good!
These 9 health benefits of going cold brew speak for themselves! How will you do your brew?
Side note: We’ve been drinking Grounds for Change coffee for a couple of years now and LOVE it! Go take a look at their organic, fair-trade, carbon-free blends. Absolutely delicious!
6. Try a thrift store transformation
Hey! How ’bout we head out with our cold brew coffee in hand to the thrift store? People donate all kinds of amazing items that can be given new life.
Many of these items are built far superior to what can be bought today.
Challenge your creativity by finding a neat item at your local thrift store and using it to make something to solve a need in your home. Best of all? It’s just your style!
Take a look at these ideas for inspiration!
7. Turn Dollar Tree bakeware into something beautiful
You are going to love this idea! Turn Dollar Tree pie pans or cookie sheets into something fun and useful for your home.
Take a look at this video for all the neat things you can create for less than $5!
8. Do arts and crafts with your kids or by yourself
It’s amazing what we can create with our imaginations and our hands, isn’t it?
If you love DIY’s & Crafts, you won’t want to miss my friend Michelle’s posts over at Blessings By Me.
She is well-loved for her brilliant (and adorable!) easy-to-follow tutorials for Dollar Tree DIY’s and so much more!
Here are the DIY’s & Crafts she’s been teaching us how to make!
9. Put together a puzzle
In our home, we really enjoy these! There are so many different varieties and varying difficulty levels too!
Natalie and her twin sister Nicole began an inspirational business called, “Peace by Piece Puzzles,” after discovering the inner healing benefits each piece can bring to us. Each of their puzzles tell a story of hope, love, and encouragement. Please support them if you can on their admirable journey!
Jigsaw puzzles are also available on the App Store of your phone or find some fun designs online.
10. Discover the road less traveled
Think you really know your area? Think again! Find some backroads you’ve never traveled before and just get lost on a relaxing drive. You might be surprised what beautiful scenery you’ll find!
Don’t forget to take your camera so you can save the memory!
11. Visit museums or indoor aquariums
Some of my favorite memories have been at indoor aquariums! Museums and aquariums are great fun for adults and kids alike. Best of all, on hot Summer days – the A/C is usually feelin’ good!
It’s a great opportunity to learn something new and have fun while you’re doing it!
12. Try a new food
Whether you are dining out or in – trying a new food can be a lot of fun! My hubby and I frequently find new recipes that seem interesting and give them a go! Sometimes it works out deliciously and other times it’s a “we won’t cook this again” kind of moment.
Part of the fun is just making a new memory, enjoying the process of cooking or baking, and learning something new!
What will you try next?
13. Have a jam fest
Want to learn an instrument? Or do you already know how to play one and have friends that do too? Get together in person (or even on Zoom!) and share the love of music.
14. Learn about natural living
One of our passions is learning more about natural living and using essential oils to help heal our bodies God’s way.
We purchase our oils from Plant Therapy and have been very pleased with their quality, affordability, and selection!
They always have so many great ideas to share and they send you a free custom oil for your birthday!
15. Make costumes for pets & people
For me, cats in costumes are impossible to resist! Just so darn cute! The fun doesn’t stop there though.
Take a look at these fun projects:
16. Hide the penny game for kids
When my husband was growing up, he and his siblings made up a game called, “Hide the Penny.”
If you’ve ever heard of hide and go seek, you’ve got the idea already! One of them would hide the penny in the house and whoever found it, won that round.
It’s a simple game to keep boredom at bay and do something other than sitting still on electronics too! If you want, make it even more fun by setting up a rewards system. I’ll leave that to your imagination. 🙂
17. Take a bubble bath
Add in a DIY bath soak, essential oils, or try one of these 10 relaxing homemade bubble bath recipes.
Turn off the lights, light your favorite candles, and just relax! Or…catch up on that book you’ve been wanting to read while you soak your tension away.
18. Find a houseplant you love & learn
Houseplants are a perfect way to clean the air in your home, bring some of the outdoors in, and just make your house feel more alive (because it is!).
Find a houseplant you love the look of and learn more about what it needs. Or, decide which room you’d like to add a plant to and find a plant that will work well in those conditions. (i.e. how much light, humid or dry, etc)
19. Cross off your Christmas giving list
Don’t wait until last minute! Not only are the prices higher but so are your stress levels!
Download a free browser extension like Honey and save some serious cash! Honey will search for and automatically apply coupons to your checkout process online, no matter where you’re shopping.
How’s that for smart shopping online?
20. Sing karaoke
I have had some serious fun over the years singing karaoke! You don’t need to be a good singer, either. It’s just a good old-fashioned way to have fun right at home!
You could go pro with a karaoke machine or an all-in-one karaoke microphone.
I’ve got a feeling this could become an addiction! What’s your song?
21. Have a technology-free day
These days, everyone is so attached to a phone, computer screen, TV, or other gadgets that in so many ways, we’ve detached from what does matter!
Go tech-free for 24 hours in your home. Listen quietly for the still small voice of God speaking to your heart, reconnect with yourself and your loved ones. Be reminded of the simple pleasures in life.
It’s just my humble opinion, but in all of our “connectedness,” we’ve never been more disconnected.
Every year on the first Friday in March, the “National Day of Unplugging,” is celebrated. But as they encourage us to do, any day is a great day to unplug from tech and plug into real living!
22. Find a pen pal
I miss the days of grabbing a pen and paper and writing a letter that goes through “snail mail.” Back in those days, I literally had around 50 pen pals to keep in touch with. We all found it therapeutic.
Global Penfriends hasn’t forgotten the joys of connecting this way. It’s a free and safe service with people of all ages and backgrounds for you to exchange letters with. You never know who’s waiting to hear from you!
23. Get creative with adult coloring projects
My dear friend Kathy was obsessed with all things adult coloring. Then I began to understand why! It is incredibly relaxing! Plus, you really get to create something amazing without needing the ability to draw!
Nowadays, there are hundreds of adult coloring options available! There’s no excuse to be stressed or bored! 😀
24. Create stunning stained glass
Sure, this one may require some skill, but if you are the handy type, take a look at these 17 DIY stained glass window plans!
If you do end up working on any of these projects, I’d love to see your before & after’s!
25. Decorate plant pots
These 24 brilliantly creative DIY flower pot re-do’s from Country Living will have you inspired in no time!
26. Read a “How-To” Manual
Is there something you’d really like to learn more about? Pick up a great how-to manual on the subject and dive in!
When you learn something new, you improve your mental health, exercise your brain, and even reduce your risk of dementia!
Besides that, your new skill just might earn you some extra income!
27. Start a podcast, channel, or blog
Have a skill, passion, experience, or opinion you’d like to share with the world? Consider starting your own blog or podcast.
Creative Blogging 101 has some great tips for new bloggers to help get you started!
Podcast Insights can help you get started with the need-to-know info of podcasting.
Cathrin Manning has great tips for those looking to start a YouTube channel.
28. Start a scrapbook
My friend Shell Vera at The Essential Creative always has amazing ideas! When she shared a scrapbook she created for a loved one, I was in awe of her creative talent. What a special way to share your heart with someone!
Here’s what she shared:
As Shell says, a scrapbook can be created any way you want. Get inspired by her post and make a scrapbook of thoughts & prayers for someone you care about.
Or, create a scrapbook filled with wishes you’d like to come true, ideas, and hopes for your future. Make it a bucket list, if you’d like. Whatever it is – just have fun with it!
29. Practice a foreign language
“Practice makes perfect,” they say! Just imagine the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel when you’ve mastered that language you’ve always wanted to learn!
Rosetta Stone is a great place to start. Their award-winning programs have been helping people learn a language of their choice for over 25 years!
30. Collect and/or trade antiques
Antiques can be a lot of fun! They have so many stories to tell!
It’s best to be smart when buying ‘antiques’ though. Some things are just old and neat but not worth a dime. Talk to antique dealers near you to learn about assessing value, or read books and articles.
Once you have a good eye for value – here are some places you might find your next great buy!
Where do you sell them? Here are some helpful ideas.
31. Get funky and fit with Motown!
Combining fitness and fun is the ticket to success! Getting healthy should not be a chore!
Tiffany Moore has combined an indoor walking workout with some great Motown music! If feeling more fit is on your to-do list, don’t miss this:
32. Soak in the presence of the Lord
If you’re not familiar with it, soaking in the presence of God involves just being still while listening to soaking music and allowing Holy Spirit to minister to your heart. He restores your soul. He speaks words of hope, love, and encouragement to you.
Nothing has changed my life like just being with Jesus. Just being – not doing. Try it. He will heal and help you too.
33. Write thank you notes
Want a sweet way to show appreciation for the folks that keep us safe every day? Write thank-you notes to your local health care workers on the frontlines of the COVID fight, for your fire station, police officers, or your local soldiers.
Or, write a thank you note of appreciation to a mentor, spouse, pastor, or friend that has made a difference in your life. Tell them why you appreciate them.
Life is short, my friends. We are not promised tomorrow to say what we should say today.
34. Create a prayer journal and pray
Many times when we go through the storms of life, we forget how many times God has been faithful to answer our prayers in the past.
Keeping a prayer journal where we can write down the good and bad that’s on our hearts helps us release the burden to our Father who sees and cares.
A prayer journal is also a great way to elevate your Bible study time and get to know the heart of Jesus for you more intimately.
35. Make smoothies
What better way to celebrate Summer than to make a delicious and nutritious smoothie?
Try one of these 6 healthy superfood smoothie recipes to add powerful healing foods into your diet.
36. Clean and organize your fridge & freezer
Don’t tell me I’m the only one who needs to do this right now! 🤣 I love these stackable organizers to keep everything neat, tidy, and together.
It’s amazing how much less the refrigerator runs when it is clean and organized. That means money savings in your pocket!
37. Join “The Sofa Singers”
“Set up by vocal leader James Sills as a response to global self-isolation during the Coronavirus outbreak, The Sofa Singers brings together hundreds of people in real-time for 45 minutes of simultaneous singing.”
Sounds like great fun, doesn’t it? Join up here.
38. Go to planet Mars
Ever wanted to visit Mars? Now you can! NASA’s Curiosity Rover has captured some amazing photos of what Mars is really like.
39. Have fun with your smart-speaker Alexa
Around here, we’ve been known to have great fun finding out what all Alexa can do! We love playing cat or bird sounds to get our cats on the hunt for the intruder! Their reactions are priceless!
But did you know that Alexa can play games too? That’s right! Take a look at these 21 free games you can play with Alexa!
40. Join or start a book club online
Love to read and share books with others? Consider joining Bookclubz where book lovers come together to share what they love and what they didn’t. You might discover your new favorite author!
41. Enjoy the magic of Cirque du Soleil from home
Have you ever seen Cirque du Soleil? It is truly remarkable the physical feats these performers do!
Due to Covid-19, performing live isn’t really an option. Now you can watch some of their acts for free online!
42. Make an easy resolutions list
I’ll admit to not being a fan of New Year’s resolutions. Even with dedicated people, they usually fizzle out. Our needs change through the year. Our goals fluctuate.
Make an easy resolutions list instead so you can celebrate the small wins each day. Checking off those to-do boxes feels soooo good.
You’ll be motivated to keep going and before you know it, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your big goals too!
Focus on one step at a time. This way, you won’t feel overwhelmed and discouraged before you even begin!
43. Enjoy classic Sunday comics
Did you ever grab a Sunday newspaper just to see the comics? If so, you’re not alone!
GoComics has compiled all the favorites into one place organized by title, category, or type. If you love comics, you’ll love this.
44. Teach your pet something new
This is easily one of my favorites on the list of 100 fun summer activities! It’s extremely rewarding teaching your pet a new trick.
Cats can be trained too! In our home, my baby boy Pips is learning how to fetch. It was already something he did naturally but I am teaching him to do it on command by reinforcing the behavior with treats.
Training your dog? Here are some fundamentals to remember.
45. Learn how to draw
I’m one of those people who thinks they’re really horrible at drawing. My husband on the other hand is great at it!
If you’d like to try your hand at drawing or sketching but don’t know how, here is a great video tutorial for beginners:
46. Make a DIY linen spray
You are going to love this! If you have trouble relaxing or sleeping – have you ever tried an all-natural linen spray?
I have tried this and it works wonders for your stress levels and overactive mind! This DIY linen spray just might have you catching those Zzzz’s before you know it!
47. Meal plan for the week ahead
Is the amount of money you’re spending on groceries breaking the bank? We understand!
Getting organized and planning out your week’s meals not only saves you money but time too!
Don’t have a clue where to start? Grab this free printable from my friend Michelle. She has the very best tips you won’t want to miss!
48. Do an at home massage
Few things can top a great massage, right?
Have a partner? Swap massages. If not, consider these natural remedies for back pain where I share what has worked wonders for me in my battle against chronic pain.
49. Print out your digital photos
Do you have hundreds of photographic memories on your phone? Get them printed out and make a “favorite memories” photo collage.
Display them in a space you live in often so you can smile often too!
50. Learn what your love language is
Everyone has a way that they tend to express love and feel loved in return. Most likely, this is your primary love language.
The problem is, the person receiving your love may speak a different love language entirely. This can cause hard feelings, poor communication, and lots of misunderstandings.
Find out what your primary love language is and share your results with the ones you care about. Then, have them take the quiz too so you can understand one another better.
Make it a personal goal today to do one thing that would speak the love language of your spouse, your friend, your family member, or even yourself. Sit back and be amazed at how much closer you become!
So…what did you think?
