God is close to the brokenhearted - Passing Through the Dark Cave, Into the Bright Ray of Healing
For a long time, I had been passing through a dark cave.
I couldn't even bring myself to write in my journal. There was no room to look back on my life, nor the strength to care for my own soul. Everything felt desolate and hollow — dark, sad, and desperately lonely.
Maybe you know that cave. Maybe you're in it right now.

The Light That Came to Me
This morning, something happened that I didn't earn and couldn't explain.
As I woke and listened to the morning Word, something amazing happened - a bright light filled my heart, and it was like nothing I'd ever felt before. Not gradually — suddenly. Like a curtain being pulled open from the outside.
This was not something I achieved by my own effort. I hadn't decided to be happy. I hadn't made a resolution to smile or push through. If anything, I had run out of those kinds of strength entirely.
It was as if a warm light of comfort came to me and gently took away all my worries and fears, leaving me feeling calm and at peace.
That's the only way I can think to put it into words. It came to me. I didn't go to it.
Freedom I Didn't Choose — But Received
In that moment, something else shifted too.
It was as if a quiet declaration had been made over my life: the actions and words of those who once tormented me can no longer reach me. They can no longer become a problem for me.
I hadn't forgiven perfectly. I hadn't processed everything cleanly. But somehow, grace moved ahead of my emotions and announced freedom before I even fully understood it. I felt the reality of that truth in a way I never had before.
It was truly amazing, a moment that felt like a gift from above, a time when everything felt just right.
Every Tear Was Counted
In that light, I thought of the apostles — those who rejoiced even in their pain. Before I couldn't quite grasp them. Joy in suffering felt like a theological idea, not a lived one.
But this morning, it felt real.
All the tears I had shed - the ones that came from feeling bitter, from being confused, and from being completely drained - suddenly felt like they were all collected in one place. Like they were being held onto, and not a single one was thrown away. It was as if every last one of them had been noticed, and none of them had been for nothing.
Not one moment of that pain was wasted. Not because the pain was good, but because He had been present in it all along.
The One Who Holds You
I'll be honest about the questions that I had wrestled with for so long.
"Why is this happening to me?" "Why does it have to be this hard?" "Why has my life led me here?"
I had asked these questions in bitterness. In grief. In the kind of exhaustion that stops being dramatic and just becomes a dull, daily ache.
I saw myself — small and broken, standing at the bottom of a very long darkness.
But today, a new courage was born within me. Not the courage of someone who has all the answers. The courage of someone who has encountered the One who holds them.

Walking Toward the Light
I am stepping out of the cave now.
It's not really about where I am or what's going on around me. What's important is that I'm becoming the kind of person who finds true joy in life, and that's all because of this one thing - this Light that's guiding me. I'm on a journey to discover what it means to be fully alive and happy, and I'm getting there, one step at a time. Not despite the circumstances, but through them.
The rays of healing have washed over my resentment and despair. The bitterness that had calcified in me over years of hurt — it is loosening. Not all at once. But genuinely.
And I'm discovering something that I believe is really important for all of us to know:
Today, I am grateful for this different me — the one who woke up and found that grace had already been at work in the night. I don't know where this path leads. But for the first time in a long time, I want to find out.
