A cheater had a host of other godly options before him that he could have chosen. Adultery is not one, though.
The cheater could have insisted on seeing a qualified pastor about this issue. He could have spoken up to his wife about how this was impacting him. Maybe he could explore what she needed sexually for intimacy to work for her?
You see, godly options existed. Cheaters just did not choose one.
The sexless marriage “excuse” is a particularly lame one in light of how the Bible teaches sexual morality. The lack of sex does not “make” someone to commit sexual immorality.
If the lack of sexual intercourse caused sin was true, every single Christian would be “justified” in fornicating. However, Scripture is clear such actions are sins and prohibited.
Is a sexless marriage a serious problem? Of course. Miserable? I would imagine so.
Is the withholding of sexual intercourse from one’s spouse sinful? Maybe. It really depends on the circumstances. However, even if the withholding of sex is sin, sin never justifies another sin.
Finally, I would point out that cheaters who claim a sexless marriage may actually be lying about this. Shocker, I know! Cheaters lie.
Why not lie about something that some “Christians” treat as a legitimate reason for their infidelity? Just saying.
