“A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24
I absolutely adore mydog. She’s a miniature schnauzer named Darcy. Just look at that cute face!
Darcy follows me around the house, sits at my feet as I write, listens to my conversation as if she understands me, and faithfully guards the house from all threats, particularly the package delivery agents! She has a gentle personality and is always glad to see me.
A dog like Darcy is a faithful friend, a companion and comfort in times of loneliness or discouragement, and a chum who is easy to please (just throw some dog treats her way, and her little stump tail wags like crazy). God must have been thinking about his ultimate creation, mankind, when he was creating dogs to be this friendly!
If you encounter a sweet dog today, stop and give thanks for this beautiful picture of fidelity—give the dog a pat on the head (and a treat if you have it) just for the sheer pleasure of it for both of you.
God, you gave us great friends in our canine companions. Teach me to be that type of faithful friend to my own peers. And continue to remind me to be kind to all animals. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
