There is Freedom in Christ! - Enjoying the Journey
The world calls it addiction; the Word calls it bondage. Sin always makes men slaves, and only Christ can give liberty. This is very important to realize: enslaving sin is Satan’s cheap substitute for what only the Good Master can provide.
What leads to addiction?
- We seek relief.
- We seek release.
- We seek refuge.
All of this is found in Christ! When we run to anything but Him we are choosing a weak substitute that will eventually become a strong taskmaster. Sin’s relief is momentary. Sin’s release only brings captivity. Sin’s refuge becomes a prison.
God’s people should not be a slave to anything but Jesus. Remember that even good things can take the place which only the Lord should have in our affections. Paul said, “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any” (1 Corinthians 6:12).
Beware of anything that offers escape from the pain and struggles of life. You may begin by trying to “get out of” something, but have you considered what you may be getting into? Only refuge in Christ brings reality and not fantasy, liberty and not bondage.
Bring your struggle, stress, and strain to Christ. There is true and lasting freedom in Him.
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage” (Galatians 5:1).
