The Temple in Jerusalem, which was rebuilt by Herod the Great, was one of the wonders of the ancient world. People came from everywhere to marvel at its size and magnificence. Jesus spent his final week in Jerusalem, teaching in the temple. But apparently, his disciples didn’t think that he was appreciative enough of the beauty of the temple around them. The disciples were enormously proud of the temple in Jerusalem, and rightly so. It was one of the marvels of the ancient world. But Jesus was looking into the future, when, within 40 years, the temple would be destroyed by the Romans.
