When you entrepreneur journey leaves you anxious

Proverbs 16:3:

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Matthew 6:33:

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

You have decided to step into the world of entrepreneurship, leaving your stable job behind. With the savings you have diligently accumulated, you are setting up a small business. The decision to invest your time, effort, and finances into this venture brings along a wave of anxiety. You have put your all into this project, wondering if it will all lead to nothing.

This anxiety is not unique to you; many successful businessmen have trodden a similar path. Take Walt Disney, for instance. Before the magical empire, he faced bankruptcy and rejection. Or consider the story of Bill Gates, who dropped out of college to pursue a risky business idea that eventually led to Microsoft. These titans of industry experienced the same uncertainties and fears that you are grappling with now.

It is common in the field of entrepreneurship — the fear of failure. It is these very anxieties that have propelled many towards success.

But how will you manage the anxiety in your entrepreneur journey?

Practically, you can manage your anxiety by breaking down your tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. Create a detailed plan, set achievable goals, and prioritize them. This way, you can focus on one thing at a time, reducing the overwhelming feeling that often accompanies a new business venture.

Additionally, you can seek advice from experienced entrepreneurs or mentors. Their insights can provide valuable guidance and ease your concerns. Networking with others in similar situations can also create a support system, helping you realize that you are not alone in facing these challenges.

Despite taking all the practical steps required for your entrepreneurial journey, it is natural for anxiety to creep in, making you question if your confidence is genuine or merely a facade.

In this case, turn to Proverbs 16:3.

This verse urges you to commit your work to the Lord, a reminder that your efforts are not in isolation but part of a larger plan. By entrusting your endeavors to a higher purpose, you can find assurance that your steps are guided.

However, committing your work to the Lord does not imply a guarantee of success without challenges. Instead, it emphasizes aligning your goals with a sense of purpose beyond immediate outcomes.

Remember that commitment to the Lord involves both action and faith.

For instance, if you face financial setbacks or unexpected hurdles, committing your work to the Lord involves maintaining your commitment to your goals while trusting that there is a purpose beyond immediate difficulties. It is about finding assurance that your efforts, even in the face of anxiety, are part of a greater design.

That said, embrace the uncertainties with resilience. Even in moments of anxiety, you are growing and evolving. Your efforts matter, and with dedication and faith, you are laying the foundation for success.

I'm a Christian who sees the church as my second home. Not only were my parents the ones who raised me, but our church elders and members also played a significant role. However, despite attending church every Sunday, I still have some questions regarding my faith. As a writer, the articles I create serve as answers to the questions I've had and continue to have, and I hope they can serve a purpose for others who are searching for the same answers.
