Where is Our Faith?

1x
“For nothing is impossible with God.” – Luke 1:37

It is easy to say we have faith. The real question is, are we actually living a life that is putting our faith in God? Do we believe the passage in Luke 1:37 which assures us that nothing is impossible with God? Do we have faith in God’s ability and trust that He cares about every aspect of our lives?

Faith is not some elusive, whimsical or feelings-based idea. Faith becomes evident in our lives as we study God’s Word, converse with Him in prayer, and put what He teaches us into loving action.

HOW CAN WE GROW OUR FAITH IN JESUS?

1. Believe God Exists: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20 (NIV) If you are struggling to believe God exists or are doubting God’s goodness, I encourage you to ask God to show you how wonderful and amazing He is. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

2. Commit to Trusting God: When we accept, believe, and trust in ALL of God’s ways we are putting ALL of our faith in Him. When we cherry-pick only what we like or agree with in Scripture, we are putting our faith in something or someone else. Most of the time, that someone is ourselves.

3. Learn from the Faithful: Hebrews 11 is filled with amazing examples of faithful followers. Start by picking one of the heroes of the faith; one that you resonate with. Research a Bible concordance, a study Bible or another proven reference source and learn more about their life. I am always fascinated when I do a deep-dive, back story on various Biblical saints.

Biblical faith is confident obedience to God’s Word regardless of consequences or

circumstances. God speaks to us through His holy Word. Our job is to receive it, believe it, trust it, and obey it no matter what may come our way. Faith through scripture allows us to better understand and connect with Him. Faith is simply trusting God for, and in, everything. Period.

“Faith enables the believing soul to treat the future as present and the invisible as seen.”  ~ Dr J Oswald Sanders

Questions for Reflection:

  1. Do you feel like your faith is currently in a good place? If not, why not?
  2. Which one of three steps listed above is the hardest one for you to do?
  3. If you don’t believe God exists, what is stopping you from exploring the Bible for answers.
