"How can I trust God?"
Proverbs 16:9:
"The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps."
Hebrews 11:
"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Proverbs 3:5-6:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
When anxiety grips your heart, well-meaning voices echo, "Trust God and His plan." Yet, a nagging doubt lingers within you – how can you trust God? Rest assured, you are not alone in this struggle. Many fellow Christians grapple with the same question.
Trusting God involves surrendering to His unseen workings. It is not a blind leap, but a journey of understanding. However, as humans, we crave immediacy and a tangible assurance we can see and touch. The challenge lies in placing trust beyond the visible.
But perhaps you can find comfort by looking back to the past.
Reflect on the Israelites' journey from slavery in Egypt to the Promised Land. God promised them a land flowing with milk and honey. In Joshua 21:43-45, it is affirmed, "Thus the Lord gave to Israel all the land that he swore to give to their fathers. And they took possession of it, and they settled there. And the Lord gave them rest on every side just as he had sworn to their fathers."
Recall the assurance God provided to David. Though initially a shepherd, God promised him a lasting kingdom. In 2 Samuel 7:16, God affirms, "And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever."
Think about the promise of a Savior. Centuries before Jesus' birth, the prophet Isaiah foretold in Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
In each instance, God proved faithful. These biblical accounts underscore that God's promises are not empty words but declarations of His unwavering commitment.
Moreover, your life is a testament.
When you take a moment to reflect on the past, you begin to see the times when life's pieces fell into place, even when they seemed unseen at first. In those moments, God's faithfulness becomes evident.
Consider a time when you faced unexpected challenges in your career. Despite initial setbacks and uncertainties, you eventually found a new opportunity that not only aligned with your skills but also brought fulfillment.
Or, reflect on moments in relationships, perhaps a time when you experienced a difficult breakup. In the aftermath, you discovered personal growth and resilience. Later, you met someone who brought genuine joy and companionship into your life.
Also look back on instances of health challenges, when you or a loved one faced uncertainty. Despite the initial fear and anxiety, recovery came, and healing occurred. In these moments, the unseen hand of God's faithfulness becomes clear
Trusting God is not a demand for instant certainty, but a process. It is acknowledging that His ways may surpass our comprehension.
