Where should you seek help? Find healing in God's Word

Are you grappling with the exhaustion of sleepless nights, the constant churn of unsettling thoughts, and the haunting sense of worthlessness? The advice you often receive is to seek help, yet you have diligently explored various avenues – medications, meditation, and even donned the facade of positivity in the hopes that it might transform your mindset.

Despite your earnest efforts, the relief you seek remains elusive. In this seemingly desperate situation, who or what can you turn to for help in healing?

People?

You might think about reaching out to professionals for help. Those trained to guide people through tough times can offer valuable insights and support. But it is important to acknowledge that their methods may not always work for everyone. Plus, there is the added concern of payment, potentially burdening you further.

Turning to those around you, like family, friends, or churchmates, may seem like a natural step. However, two significant problems may arise. Firstly, people can be judgmental, making it difficult to open up about your struggles. The fear of being scrutinized may hinder your willingness to seek help from them.

Secondly, even if they mean well, those close to you may unintentionally say the wrong things – downplaying your feelings or offering impractical advice. Navigating these challenges can be disheartening and make it harder for you to find the support you need.

Undoubtedly, you may even have likely already explored these avenues in your quest for relief. After all, it is not uncommon to reach out to professionals or lean on friends and family during challenging times.

God’s Word?

Turning to God's Word for healing may have crossed your mind, and perhaps you have already given it a try. Yet, as you read through the pages, the sought-after comfort and solace may seem elusive. It is a common experience, one we have all faced, and there is no need for guilt or frustration. Sometimes, it is about finding the right perspective when approaching the scriptures.

Considering a different approach might be helpful. While reading the Bible cover to cover may seem like a comprehensive method, it may not align with your current need for immediate comfort.

The Bible is a vast and intricate text, and focusing on specific passages that speak to your heart can be equally enriching. It is not about how much you read but rather about finding the verses that resonate with you and offer the solace you seek in times of distress.

That said, consider the following verses:

  • Psalm 34:4: "I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears."
  • Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
  • 1 Peter 5:7: "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
  • Psalm 23:4: "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
  • Matthew 6:34: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

I'm a Christian who sees the church as my second home. Not only were my parents the ones who raised me, but our church elders and members also played a significant role. However, despite attending church every Sunday, I still have some questions regarding my faith. As a writer, the articles I create serve as answers to the questions I've had and continue to have, and I hope they can serve a purpose for others who are searching for the same answers.
